Yoga Philosophy

A curious student of yoga philosophy, I’ve worked closely with my teacher Hali Schwartz since 2019 through a variety of satsangs (philosophy meetings): scripture study, daily chanting, foundational philosophy studies along with prānāyām and meditation.

These satsangs create the foundation for all my offerings and are my way of honouring the roots of yoga beyond the modern interpretation and centralization of simply asana (shape)-based practices.

Decolonization

Decolonization is a major tenet that supports my understanding of self when I occupy the role of the guide/teacher. My offerings aim to return us to our relations to one another, to land and away from the insidious oppression thats perpetuated in the current wellness world.

Decolonization to me is the active practice of stripping away the implanted ideas, beliefs, ways of thinking that have been left deep within our subconscious as a by-product of colonization.

I want to be free and in my pursuit of liberation is deeply embedded with my own active decolonization practice.

Motion

Motion is one of the tools I use to embody philosophy + decolonization. My favourite ways to move are through active vinyasa, purifying hatha, strengthening pilates and heart-pumping barre. My professional training includes all four. In addition to chair + inclusive yoga.

Stillness

Stillness is the second tool within my arsenal that I often employ to embody philosophy + decolonization in practice. We use motion to guide the body to a place were a sit or a (active/passive) hold is held and here: we witness and observe what rises to the surface.

I believe in the anatomy and sovereignty of all beings that practice beside me: so stillness is where we can both go to work. I can support you in getting into the shape and you must do the work of witnessing.

This is also the space where we introduce prānāyām or simply observe its effects, shifts and presence within and outside of us.
