L i f e i s i n e v i t a b l e

I’ve been sitting with this sentiment a lot lately.

  • The other shoe is about to drop

  • imposter syndrome

  • fear of rejection

Whatever it is you’re holding with bated breath, tells your nervous system that this reality you are experiencing is not the one that is being shared with all of humxnity. Right? Like you’re going to get “found out” somehow. One day the partner will realize I ain’t shit, or the manager will look through my work and realize how sloppy I am and then I’ll lose my job. The friends will realize I’m only fun cuz of [xxx].

These are thoughts that ruminate many people’s minds. That the inevitable will happen and we will be caught red-handed (Shaggy voice) for who we really are.

The truth is- the inevitable is already happening. No- those intrusive thoughts are not true. The only thing that is inevitable in life is life itself. With life comes attachment and through attachment: suffering.

However, attachment is a choice. Every time you pause and tell yourself to take a breath? That’s a choice to break a cycle. Every time you shake yourself out of your thoughts and into the present moment? You’re breathing a pattern. Every time you physically, emotionally, intellectually take yourself out of a situation and equation? You are breaking a cycle. And you do this every dang day! You are already an expert, we just haven’t had a chance to voice it yet. You are already making moves towards something different, but its minuteness allows us to reject the reality of your intuitive efforts. But its big!!!! Make space for how you already taking care.

How did you know to do that? How did you come up with a strategy to support yourself in a moment of overwhelm?

That’s the beauty and inevitability of life. Jon Batiste says that music is inevitable and is so closely tied to life. Consider the heartbeat the very first sign of life has a musical note. The truth is this: life is inevitable and it is everywhere around us, its aim isn’t to make us suffer with every beat, crevice, detour. Its aim is to keep filling the spaces where life does not exist. Life cannot exists without grief, heartbreak, immense loss and in those processes there are spaces where life no longer exists. And then the cycle begins again. We know this intuitively but often deny it because it requires us to also admit: there are things (major things) I cannot control. Control is related to hierarchy and access. Without those two things, reality in this life is also dim.

When we accept the complexity and heartbreak of it all, our hearts break less because the awareness of life happening reminds me that my suffering might not be happening to me specifically. Doesn’t take away from the reality of it!! Don’t think I’m saying that, but reorients me in a different way.

So the truth is this, life is inevitable and in that- joy and inner peace must be too. Life is not one-dimensional where the only thing that exists are your fears, insecurities, longings for, but the opposite side of the spectrum also. Joy, acceptance, love- all the things you’ve been looking for has been looking for you. The totality of life is always in motion.

Acceptance of the inevitable doesn’t lengthen its stay or quicken its arrival. We might experience the binary of life for moments, memories, or years. Maybe even only at the very end. But I’ll ask you this, if what you want out of this life is inevitable: will that prevent you from acting and believing as if its our of your reach? And if so, how does that change your outlook in life? It must, and that answer I’m curious to see.

What you are looking for is looking for you, but if your actions reflect your inability to receive you’ll miss its arrival and you’ll keep missing it until you’ve finally accepted its actually always been on its way.

We can work our dang asses off until we got no more dang bums left. But!!! If we always close our eyes and reject its presence?? What are we doing here, yall. What you want is inevitable and for me its creativity. So this morning, I chose to create, open my laptop and create for you.

What’s inevitable for you?
