Nice to meet’cha- my name is Tash, my pronouns are she and her — what are yours?
I am a filipinx settler on Turtle Island, more specifically on treatied, unceded Anishinabewaki, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Haudenosaunee territory of Tkaronto, currently called “Toronto, Ontario”. Daughter to Clarita Nacionales whose lineage can be traced back to Ilocos Sur to her maternal grandmother and Victor Griarte whose lineage can be traced back to Bicol, back one generation to his mother - both in what is currently know as “Luzon, Philippines”
Born in Quiapo in Metro Manila, raised by her Lola, while her mother Clarita moved to Canada under the caregiver program in the early 90s. Not unusual, her father lived closer to his work and would visit on his time off. At the age of almost 7, she moved permanently to Tkaronto and has been here ever since.
My lived experience in absence of my parents, in poverty with my lola and then the subsequent move to “Canada”, and my life as an outsider/silent witness within the model minority lens deeply impacts the lens I use to occupy the role of guide in mostly yt wellness spaces. For as long as I continue to occupy space in this way: I will continue to examine and expand our collective understanding of what it means to be and how that is different for all folx.
I understand my role in movement as a guide and compass and recognizes that the real teachers are the bodies moving. I hope to create a container so that folx can learn something about themselves by themselves and through movement and meditation we access these learnings and dormant wisdom that each of us contain.
My formal training includes 225-hour Hatha + Vinyasa training with Kim McBean, Taryn Diamond, Erin Wilbur of Union Yoga + Wellness, 50 Hour Barre with Morgan Cowie at Mosaic Yoga, 40+ hour Therapeutic and Chair Yoga with Kassandra Prus, Reiki level 1 + 2 with Clare Kenty, continuous Yoga Philosophy with Hali Schwartz. Currently acting as auditor to the 200-hour GoodBodyFeel Teacher training with Robin Lacambra, studying pranayam, restorative yoga and nidra with Taryn Diamond as well as Reaching in, Reaching out with New Leaf Foundation.
This is space is understood as a virtual space for community and all folx are invited regardless of age, sexual identity + expression, capacity, race and religion. If this is something you are not open to: this space is not for you.
